week 2

Alright, its time to calculate the second weekly total!
This week I didn't make any huge purchases, like usb drives or batteries ...
So I expect that I will have done much better!

The breakdown:

$32.97 on food
$6.71 on make up
$8.94 on school supplies
$17.94 on a rubiks cube ...

Total : $66.56

I really wasn't expecting that big of a number.
And I will have you know that I needed that rubiks cube for a school project!
But I have a very probable theory as to why I spent so much this week.
Last week I was really hard on myself, I planned my meals, cooked at home,  and really watched my spending. Even after all that work, my weekly total was still almost eighty dollars because of 1 large purchase.
This week I felt safer, because I knew that my number would have to be lower no matter how I spent, just because I knew I wouldn't be spending forty dollars on another usb!
Man ... thats so much money though ...
And half of it was spent on food!

This week I am going to be extra hard on myself.
I need to be more self disciplined!
I'll keep you posted!

week 1

Okay guys, brace yourself ...
as promised I will post the total amount of money I have spent in this last week.
I have kept all of my receipts, and I solemnly swear that I have included everything!
I am doing this honestly :)

Here is the breakdown of money spent this week:

$15.37 on batteries
$19.07 on food and drinks
$1.98 on jello ... >.<
$42.55 on an 8G usb drive

this bring the total to:

$78.97

Wow ...
Thats really hard to see. I understand that I have made some pretty big purchases, the USB and the batteries aren't something that I buy every week, but still. Every week there seems to be something that I have to have, or that I "need" to buy. I seriously need to break this habit! Almost eighty dollars in one week is unacceptable. I mean, thats a huge fraction of my paycheck, what's the point of putting myself through the stress of having a job and going to school full time if I'm just going to blow all the money I earn on junk I don't need!?
Oh, and for those of you who are curious about the jello ... I use it for pore strips.
Its cheaper than the store bought ones! ^^ So thats why I didn't include it as food.
A few things are up for debate here. I did need that USB for school (this class in particular) and there will be future purchases for school, that I don't think should count as 'unnecessary' purchases. But I will include them in the weekly totals anyway, because its during the weeks that I spend that kind of money, that I need to be extra careful.

So, I'm really shocked to see that number. Its amazing how little purchases (and big ones...) can really add up before you know it.
It's a long road ahead, but I am defiantly pumped for this challenge, and that big red number will only inspire me further to keep myself accountable for what I spend.

just so you know

Hey everyone!
Just an update on how my week is going thus far. I know it's only been a few days, but I'm already starting to feel some buyers remorse.
Since monday, I have spent over $20. Here's what that looks like:

$15.37 on batteries
$1.84 on coffee
$3.78 on food

BAD GIRL!

See how bad I am? I need this!
But there is a silver lining to this! I want you all to know that creating this blog has already made a significant impact on my spending habits. I have put in a lot more effort than usual to ensure that I won't have any reason to buy anything. Strategies such as preparing meals in advanced, and leaving my wallet at home (xD) have proven to be effective!
Even still, as you can see I am already off to a horrid start to the week! Im not looking forward to the weekly total on sunday ...

and so it begins ...

Today I finally got around to starting my blog for DIVA. After much deliberation on what to blog about, I thought it would be fun, interesting, and beneficial for me to document how I spend my money. As a starving full-time art student, and a part-time worker, I think it would be good for me to see where all of my money is going!

I know that this experience is really going to open my eyes and change the way I see spending money. I have huge spending weaknesses, and I really hope that this documentation gives me a stronger will to resist unnecessary spending!

Buying food is a HUGE weakness for me. I hate taking the time to prepare meals for myself, but eating out is expensive! I need to break these habits asap! And when has there ever been a better time to working towards goals than the new year?

Speaking of goals, I need to keep myself accountable for the following on my blog:
- I promise to post ALL purchases and prices that I make throughout the next 4 months.
Things could get personal, and I'm not sure I feel comfortable exposing myself to that degree, but I'll give you a general idea of what I'm buying, but its the price thats important!
- By doing this, I will be able to keep track of how much I am spending. So at the end of the semester, we will get to see just how much money I've blown! (>.<) Annnd in other words, how much I could have saved.
- Lastly, I promise to be dedicated. This is going to take mucho commitment on my part, and there's no point of doing something if your only going to go halfway. Especially if it's something like this! I will probably need to post a lot more than once a week to make this blog work. I promise to do my very best!

Well, wish me luck! It's safe to say I have never done anything like this before!
I'm feeling pumped for this!
